Servus and Goede dag!
Stefan Kastner and Rina den Drijver – a Bavarian man and a Dutch woman. Yes, you read correctly. We are your hosts at the Waldgasthof Buchenhain. How did it happen? It’s actually very simple: life!
FAMILY BUSINESS FOR OVER 100 YEARS
Our Hotel München looks back on a long family history. At the beginning of the 20th century, my great-grandfather, Anton Ley, purchased the building in the forest and obtained a concession to expand it into an inn. But things really took off in March 1912, more than 100 years ago, when my great-grandmother Lina finally obtained permission to run a year-round inn. From that point on, we received and entertained guests at the Waldgasthof Buchenhain. And we are now already the fourth generation. You could say that I was born to be a host. Even if I didn’t think at the beginning of my apprenticeship that I would actually take over the Waldgasthof – my heart beats not only for hospitality, but also for the antiques trade.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Nevertheless, it was important for me to receive a sound education in the hotel business. After studying in Lausanne, I was able to work in a wide variety of cities and countries, including Morocco, London, Boston and Beijing. While in Nice I met my wife Rina, who was also studying at the hotel management school in Lausanne. After many years abroad, we moved back to Munich.
We have been running the Waldgasthof Buchenhain, our hotel in Munich, together since 2011. Our guests should not only feel comfortable with us, they should feel that we are hosts with heart and soul. Hosts who value their home, the beautiful spot here at the Waldgasthof Buchenhain. That is reflected in many areas of our hotel and restaurant.
OUR CUISINE AT WALDGASTHOF BUCHENHEIN
The cuisine in our Waldgasthof Buchenhain under the direction of chef Carsten Wiedecke thrives on quality,
freshness and also of regionality. We select local products out of conviction and ethical principles and source them from partners in the local area. In addition, our carefully selected suppliers promote species-appropriate animal husbandry, short transport routes and constant quality assurance through responsible contact persons in the region.
THESE ARE OUR VALUES
You can feel our Bavarian culture up close in our lounges and our hotel in the south of Munich. Many pieces of furniture are traditional Bavarian or antiques that I have selected with much love. In addition to traditions and culture, we also keep up with the times. We are open to new ideas and are happy to add things – all for the benefit of our guests.
Which is how our CAMYLO Bar, came into being, where cocktails are regularly served for after work in the summer.
In the beer garden, we have not only built a stone grill to make meat and fish taste even better, but have also optimised our forest stage, where any number of things can be seen: from Bavarian brass bands and Schuhplattler, to country musicians and line dancers, to rock bands. We like diversity and always value quality. So that you, our guests, feel just as comfortable in our Waldgasthof Buchenhain as we do.
Sincerely, Stefan Kastner and Rina den Drijver
